Workshop Overview:

We all know that a performance review and ongoing performance conversations are critical drivers in employee performance and motivation.  These important conversations take planning, skill and confidence. Engaging in these conversations effectively has many benefits for employees, managers and the entire organization. 

The Leading Performance Conversations (with your Team) workshop will explore the skills and techniques needed to have meaningful, mutually-beneficial performance conversations about goals, professional development, tracking progress, and feedback. Where employees and managers play an active role in engaging each other in conversations about performance that build trust and are forward-focused. 

Learning Outcomes: 

  • Understand your role and responsibilities at the University of Waterloo in supporting the Performance Management Cycle  

  • Identify the components that make performance conversation experience positive 

  • Employ methods that promote coaching and ongoing support for staff development  

  • Recognize the tools and resources available to managers/supervisors and employees 

  • Generate conversations about common performance-related scenarios that will include the opportunity to ask questions and gather feedback from the group. 

Preparation

Pre-workshop self-directed learning (15-20 min) will be shared 7-10 days in advance of the workshop via a calendar invitation.
