Course descriptions

HLTH 220 - Pyschosocial Perspectives on Lifespan Development and Health

There are 3 commonly recognized domains of development - physical, cognitive and psychosocial. While HLTH 220 / GERON 220 places an emphasis on the cognitive and psychosocial domains, all 3 domains will be considered as a dynamic system in order to arrive at a reasonable picture of individual characteristics and individual development across the lifespan. Similarly, health will be treated as an inclusive and dynamic concept. Throughout the course we will examine how the organization of the individual at each
developmental stage interacts with critical health issues specific to that stage, and how this interaction impacts upon both the wellness outcome, and developmental transition.

PHS 663 - Human Development and Health

Course content includes normative and non-normative development across the lifespan as it is relevant to individual and population health and public health programming. An emphasis is placed upon the transactional nature of human development including the interrelations of the commonly recognized developmental domains, the individual’s context, and wellness. Consideration will be given to the concepts of developmental continuity, resilience, transitions, and milestones.
