Katelyn - Biomedical Sciences

Science Ambassador
Katelyn fun

Program: Biomedical Sciences

Year: 3

Stream of study: Regular

Pronouns: She/Her

Career goal: I have a goal to go into the medical field for sure! I have an interest in either Pharmacy or Physician Assistant studies but understand how difficult it is to get in, so I'm making preparing my application!

How I get involved: Although classes take up most of my time, I TA and plan to TA more courses in the future (go BIOL240L!). I'm also a member of the UWaterloo premed club and a member of UW's Women in Stem club!

Why I love my program

Biomedical Sciences is great because it really prepares you for a career in the medical field- whether you'll be dealing with patients head on as a pharmacist, doctor, nurse, etc... or if you're working behind the scenes in medical research! You'll notice that a lot of professionals have courses that include content you've taken in this major, and that will help a lot in transitioning from undergraduate to a professional program.

Why University of Waterloo?

When I was browsing around on what Universities there were, it was super overwhelming as most people know. However, I notice that in a lot of schools, you do general science courses and then transition into a major in your 2nd year. I knew that wasn't something I preferred because I feel it would be too much when your program-focused courses were compiled into 3 years instead of 4. That's when I found UW's Biomedical Sciences program! I read through what the program entailed and loved it because all the courses were the subjects I was interested in at the time. When I toured UW, I knew it was where I wanted to be because I felt at home here (as corny as that sounds) and the campus has so many beautiful study spots- indoor and outdoor!
