The Federation of Optometric Regulatory Authorities of Canada (FORAC), is responsible for the assessment of candidates' academic credentials.
Optometrists educated outside North America intending on applying for registration or licensure to practise optometry in any province of Canada, other than Quebec, must contact FORAC regarding having their academic credentials assessed. Information relating to their credentialing process and requirements can be found on the FORAC website.
Internationally trained optometrists intending on practising in Quebec should contact the Ordre des Optométristes du Québec.
Candidates whose academic credentials are favourably assessed by FORAC may proceed to register to challenge the Internationally Graduated Optometrist Evaluating Exam. (IGOEE)
Candidates who score well enough on the IGOEE to be eligible for bridging education will be referred by FORAC to ASOPP for admissions. FORAC will provide the application link directly to those candidates and will provide IGOEE scores to ASOPP for admissions.
Any candidates currently in the admissions pool from IOBP will also be sent the application. If you are currently in the admissions pool from IOBP, you will need to complete a new application for ASOPP to be considered for the program. We expect that candidates who are determined to be eligible for bridging education will receive application links by August 2024.
