Bridging education at the University of Waterloo consists of two distinct sections: ASOPP (Advanced Standing Optometry Preparatory Program) and years 3 and 4 of the Doctor of Optometry program as an advanced standing program. ASOPP will take place in the spring term ahead of entrance to year 3.

ASOPP is delivered in a hybrid model, with both online and in-person components. Most weeks will comprise of two days in-person at the University of Waterloo and three days devoted to online courses. For example, online courses include classes in optics, systemic disease, pharmacology, and in-person include clinical labs and communication activities.
ASOPP students must successfully complete all aspects of the preparatory program in order to enrol in year 3 as an advanced standing student.
