Astronomy on Tap is back in KW, so join us to sit back, relax, and learn about the Universe, while also having a couple of drinks and a bit of fun!

The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) is changing what we know about the structure and history of our Universe. By studying the light from over 10 million galaxies, DESI has recently shown that dark energy -- the strange phenomenon accelerating our Universe apart -- is perhaps even stranger than we originally thought!

Join us at Astronomy on Tap as two researchers from the University of Waterloo discuss the new work taking place in the DESI collaboration. James Morawetz will talk about baryon acoustic oscillations (BAOs), a process occurring in the early Universe that impacts its present-day structure. Then, Sofia Chiarenza will talk about dark energy, and how DESI is using features like BAOs to study the properties of this mysterious force.

Doors at 7:15pm | 8pm start | 19+
