Astronomy on Tap (Tristan Fraser and Batia Friedman-Shaw)

Wednesday, October 9, 2024 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)

Astronomy on Tap is back in KW, so join us to sit back, relax, and learn about the Universe, while also having a couple of drinks and a bit of fun!

Dark energy makes up 70% of our Universe, and causes the Universe to expand at an ever-increasing rate, accelerating galaxies away from one another. However, there's a problem: we still have no idea what this "dark energy" is. How can we hope to understand something that dominates our Universe, and yet is still a complete mystery?

We'll be joined by two guest speakers: Tristan Fraser from the University of Waterloo will speak about how dark energy is pushing the cosmos apart, and Batia Friedman-Shaw from the Perimeter Institute will discuss vacuum decay, and how the hidden energy in our Universe could lead to the end of the world...
