Total lunar eclipse 2025: Stargazing night with KW RASC

Join us for our total lunar eclipse star party!

Telescope pointed at the sky

The Waterloo Centre for Astrophysics is collaborating with the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada to celebrate the 2025 total lunar eclipse on the night of March 13-14. Join us for a night of stargazing (and moongazing!).

During a total lunar eclipse, the Earth passes directly between the Sun and Moon, allowing us to watch our own shadow being cast across the surface of the Moon.

We will be gathering with members of the KW Astronomy Club in Parking Lot E (and Lot F as overflow) on Seagram Drive from 11:30pm onwards, with telescopes pointed skywards. The partial lunar eclipse will begin at 1:09am, with totality -- the dramatic "blood moon" -- starting at 2:26am. This event is free, and open to anyone with an interest in gazing at the night sky.

Parking in Lot E is free, and permitted until 5am on March 14.

Wrap up warm, bring a flask of coffee, and enjoy the last total lunar eclipse in Ontario until 2029!
