Most of us are taught that the universe began with a giant explosion called the Big Bang. But what if that picture is incomplete—or even wrong? In this month's KPL astronomy talk, Niayesh Afshordi will explore the growing cracks in our standard cosmic origin story and introduce rival ideas that challenge the very notion of a beginning of time.
Dr. Niayesh Afshordi is a professor in the Waterloo Centre for Astrophysics (WCA) and the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics. He works on various topics related to understanding the fundamental nature of our Universe, including how it all began. Dr. Afshordi is also the author of the recent book "Battle of the Big Bang: The New Tales of Our Cosmic Origins".
