WCA-KPL Public Talk - The hunt for planets and life beyond Earth (Michael Balogh)

Wednesday, January 29, 2025 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm EST (GMT -05:00)

The WCA-KPL Astronomy Talk series takes place on the last Wednesday of each month, and is jointly organized by the Waterloo Centre for Astrophysics and Kitchener Public Library.

Astronomers have discovered thousands of planets orbiting other stars, opening a new chapter in our understanding of the Universe and our place in it. In this month’s KPL astronomy talk, Dr. Michael Balogh will discuss how scientists find and study these distant worlds, and how upcoming technology will help us search for life beyond our solar system.

Dr. Michael Balogh is a faculty member in the Waterloo Centre for Astrophysics. After a few decades studying galaxies, Dr. Balogh is steering his focus towards a frontier of astronomy research – understanding how planets form around distant stars and why other planetary systems appear much different from our own.
