WCA Housekeeping

WCA Kitchen

  • Coffee/tea-making facilities, a fridge, a microwave and some crockery are available for use in the WCA kitchen.
  • Please keep the kitchen clean and tidy, store your cups in your own office and don't consume anything that isn't yours.   It is considered that anything left in the kitchen is for general use unless labelled.
  • The coffee and tea in the kitchen are for journal clubs and astro-cophees but you are welcome to bring in your own.  Similarly, journal club cookies are intended only for "approved" journal clubs, and not for general snacking.

Recycling and Garbage

  • The black bin in your office is for garbage, and is regularly emptied by custodial staff.
  • The blue bin in your office is for recycling (paper, cardboard, containers) and you must empty it into the correct large blue bins in the hallway.
  • The bins (including the composting bin) in the WCA kitchen are regularly emptied by custodial staff.
  • If you have large cardboard boxes to recycle, you can flatten and fold the boxes and leave them beside the recycling bins in the hallway.   If the boxes are very big, please take them to the dumpsters outside.

Mail and Stationary

  • Mail and stationary items for postdoctoral fellows’ use can be found in the main Physics Main Office (PHY 262).
  • Mail is sorted alphabetically by surname and put in the mail slots to the left of the door.  If the mail is addressed "c/o Waterloo Centre for Astrophysics" one of the Main Office staff may walk it down to the WCA offices.  (Sometimes it is delivered to the WCA offices and left in the kitchen.)
    • Large packages will be left on the floor, small packages may be left on top of the mail slots.
    • You can leave mail for on-campus delivery in the bottom compartment of the file organizer outside PHY 262 B. Inter-departmental mailing envelopes can be found below that.
  • Stationery supplies, including printer paper and white board markers, can be found in the cabinet behind the mail slots. Please only take what you need.

First Aid

  • There is a first aid kit in the Physics Main Office (outside PHY 262 B).
