AARON YIP
Aaron Yip is a PhD candidate in Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo, having earned his B. Eng. and MASc from the Department of Process Engineering and Applied Science from Dalhousie University. He has previously conducted experimental and numerical studies on multiphase and reactive flows, including multicomponent pool fires, fire whirls, and mechanically agitated reactors. After taking an interest in microbiomes and biotechnology, he switched to focus on engineering microbiomes. His current work involves utilizing bacterial conjugation to alter the functionality of microbial communities. One of his projects involves engineering microorganisms from environmental water samples to biodegrade polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastics, with the goal of developing effective bioremediation strategies to tackle plastic pollution.
