BYUNG-CHUL (ROY) KIM
Byung-Chul (Roy) Kim is a Post Doctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto, currently working at the Microbiome Engineering Lab in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry. Dr. Kim previously worked at Seoul University in Korea where he investigated the development and optimization of anaerobic digestion processes for organic waste treatment, with a particular emphasis on the production of valuable chemicals such as n-caproate by microbial communities. His current research aims to industrialize resource recovery technologies to develop a sustainable carbon cycle by studying the link between macroscopic bioreactor systems and microscopic biological systems, especially focusing on chain elongation reactions which are a promising anaerobic bioprocess that has huge potential to convert renewable feedstocks to high-purity platform chemicals.
