Upcoming Events
On Thursday, November 26 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, Waterloo's Extended Reality Community of Practice will host an online session in which several instructors (including Thorsten Dieckmann, Anne Grant, Amna Idrees, David Wang, and perhaps others) will provide updates on their use of Extended Reality technologies, especially in the context of remote teaching and learning.
All are welcome to virtually attend this session. A registration link, which will include the URL for joining the session, will be available here soon.

October 2019 Event: Cybersickness Research Update with Séamas Weech

Séamas Weech, an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow working at the Virtual Reality and Mobility Lab at McGill University, met with the group via Skype to discuss some of the more recent research related to cybersickness.
September 2019 Event: GoPro Omni photosphere capture with Michael Tjendra

Michael Tjendra will demonstrate how he has used the GoPro Omni to create virtual expeditions. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in the process of capturing photosphere images and using software to stitch the images together in order to see how these could be turned into a virtual expedition.
In addition, Gillian Dabrowski, Michael, and others will be available to share information related to purchasing VR cameras. There will be an opportunity to compare consumer and professional grade camera image quality.
July 2019 Event: Google Expedition Use in Earth and Environmental Sciences Demo

John Johnston has been able to purchase a Google Expedition Kit for 20 students funded by the Dean of Science Undergraduate Teaching Initiative. Earth and Environmental Sciences are leveraging the use of a Google Expedition Kit to engage and motivate students in immersive learning experiences that are otherwise impossible (i.e. Geologic History of the Grand Canyon) or not feasible (i.e. 3D perspective of volcanoes of the world) or invisible (i.e. age-dating rocks). John will provide a Google Expedition demo for up to 20 participants.
