This two-day workshop held on October 25-26, was designed to elucidate how different disciplines conceptualize the topic of climate change and how these different disciplinary lenses provide different courses of action to deal with the Grand Challenge of climate change.
The workshop was co-hosted by IC3 and the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) and was attended by 85 people including: faculty from Kings’ College London, University of California, Carleton University, and Western University; many faculty, staff and students from the University of Waterloo, Wilfred Laurier University, Balsillie School of International Affairs and Perimeter Institute; local professionals; and community members. The feedback from participants was very positive as the illustrative quotes from some of the attendees below reveal.
The primary value for me [of attending the workshop] was thinking about climate change in different ways. Clearly it is a multidimensional issue, but one's disciplinary lens can often bring certain aspects of the issue to the foreground, while others are pushed to the margins. It was also valuable to meet colleagues working on similar research - definitely great potential for collaboration. I was inspired by all the great work going on at the University of Waterloo.
