Chair’s Remarks (Steven Bourque)
- Reminder to CTSC members to add topics to the CTSC wiki to outline potential campus-wide IT service improvements
Approval of the minutes of the previous meeting
- The previous meeting’s minutes were accepted as distributed.
POS Vlans in ONA (Steven Bourque)
- POS Vlans access permissions are being removed in order to meet PCI compliance and requirements
- An email will be sent out to the Campus Network Services Committee (CNSC)
Various updates - future discussions [Email, Storage, GIT, etc.] (Steven Bourque)
- Email audit has been added to the CTSC wiki
- Will be a future agenda item for CTSC
Storage
- Continuing investigation of alternative storage providers and Software Defined Storage
- Business case is a work-in-progress
- More information to come
GIT
- Technology Integrated Services (TIS) and Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (ERP) are working together to continue supporting GIT
- Goal is to improve and stabilize through rebuilds over the next couple of weeks
- Desired outcome would be an ongoing supported state after fixes are implemented
Wi-Fi update: guest access
- Web and VPN access has been finalized
- Testing will take place this afternoon (April 4)
- Access is available via 'uw-unsecured', access is given for 24 hours
- An email is sent to individuals requesting access; doesn't have to be a UW email address
- Looking at a potential pilot program for guest access via ‘eduroam’ provided by Canarie
- Would work the same way as 'uw-unsecured' guest access
- Clients would have to configure 802.1x Wi-Fi authentication
- There would be no change to guest wifi provided during events at this time
Roundtable
Environment (Marko)
- Started using Grouper after attending the Grouper presentation (PDF)
- Encountered some issues where a course code number on Grouper did not match with the Registrar's data
- Finds Grouper to be useful overall
- Actively encouraging Windows 10 upgrades within the department
- Marko will be retired as of July 1
- Thanks everyone for all the collaboration and partnership over the years
- Donald Duff-McCracken will be taking over Marko's attendance at CTSC
Environment (Donald)
- Noticed Macs are making MojaveOS downloads mandatory
- Older versions of Adobe Creative Suite apps are lagging in performance
AHS (Trevor)
- Actively encouraging Windows 10 upgrades within the department
Engineering (Ray)
- Actively encouraging Windows 10 upgrades within the department
Arts (Bill)
- Windows 10 upgrades are progressing well
- Thanks everyone who attended Keith McGowan's retirement party
Library (Adam)
- Noticed some softwares with lagging performance after Windows 10 upgrade
- Lag was seen in apps like Microsoft Word and Excel
- Dell laptop USB-C docking stations would stop working after the upgrade and required a hard reboot
Information Security Services, IST (Jason)
- Looking to set up a local database on-campus that contains 5 million password hashes
- WatIAM passwords will be cross-referenced using the database in order to identify breached passwords
- Could be a potential service offered by IST
- Databases are currently being set up
- EPI will be built and tested
Math (Robyn)
- Also in the process of Windows 10 updates
- Currently working on cleaning up mail aliases and getting rid of excess mail servers
- Trying to restore level of redundancy in MC back to the level it was at prior to the MC failover
- It has been decided that the department server equipment will not be moving due to cost restraints
- Open house for Climate and Energy Action Plan was hosted last week
- Members of the University community are encouraged to provide input
