Comments & discussion

  • Will there be historical access roles? Will we be able to see if someone had access to certain information at some point?
    • Yes, there is an audit log of all activity.
  • How do you plan to engage the faculties in this project?
    • Marco Dumancic is on the project team which provides a faculty perspective.
    • Once we settle on a final solution, we will need to broaden the scope of the information being distributed.

Chair’s remarks

In-camera item

Approval of the minutes of the previous meeting

The minutes from the previous meeting were accepted as distributed.

Campus News server

Steven Bourque discussed the idea of shutting down the Campus News servers.

  • There is very little activity in all of these news groups and most universities have turned them off at this point.
  • Members will consult their respective groups regarding shutting them down and report back to Steven.
  • Will readdress at the next CTSC meeting.

Other business

None.

Roundtable Reporting

Applied Health Sciences (Trevor Bain)

  • Inspector General will be coming to take a tour of our Tech Town facilities as well as the older area.
  • We are looking to move some data from our servers over to IST servers.
  • Getting prepared to launch Skype for Business; training and orientation will be a part of our operational plan.

Technology Integrated Services (Steve Bourque)

  • Denial of Service attack happened recently; probably the biggest attack we have ever seen.
    • Looking at plans on how to prevent/stop attacks like this in the future.

Engineering (Erick Engelke)

  • We have interest in Skype for Business; my group would like to be involved in the pilot.

Client Services, IST (Bob Hicks)

  • Our current exam processing scanner is running on software that was written a long time ago which limits its ability to do anything different. Is anyone working on (or know of) any plans for exam processing?
    • Science is working on something but it is in the very early stages thus far; will plan for a demonstration of it at a future CTSC meeting.
  • People are interested in a software for quick and easy surveys; generally people use Survey Monkey but it is very expensive for a site license. Does anyone have anything they are working on?
    • Engineering has a program that is used for general surveys; will demonstrate at the next CTSC meeting.
  • The student portal has a widget now that lists IT services that students would be interested in.
  • The absence tracking software is still undergoing the security scan; all major issues have been fixed but still working on some smaller issues before we can go live with it.

Arts (Dawn Keenan)

  • Some of our areas have been using Skype for Business and it is going well so far.

Math (Robyn Landers)

  • Regarding the Denial of Service attack, thank you to IST, and Steven Bourque and his team for their work on this.
  • The Math and Computer (MC) power shut down has been deferred to the end of April now.

Library (Carl Nagel)

  • Email has been sent out regarding a boot camp for hyper-converged computing; you can register via the email.
  • There will also be a boot camp on March 1st for Veeeam.

Next meeting

The next meeting will be held on March 3, 2016 at 1:30pm, in EC2 111.
