-
This was a result of the conflict in Ukraine and the United States clamping down on the enforcement of sanctions.
-
This may continue to impact additional services used at the University.
-
When an analysis was completed regarding the impact on users most results were from graduate and post-doc students in Iran.
-
Most students are familiar with VPN services to get around blocks.

Comments and discussion
-
What are the major challenges to cyber security given the current global climate?
-
Belief that currently, we are not at any level of risk. This could change depending on the federal government or university decisions, or how members of the UW community conduct themselves on social media.
-
The biggest risk is a denial of service and would be network-based.
-
UW resources could be used as part of the conflict from either side.
-
Concern regarding Red Hat or Fedora servers that have not been updated
-
Qualys is pretty good at detecting through regular scanning
-
Greater concern regarding bugs such as the Linux sudo bug
-
New staff member starting in April who will support vulnerability tracking
-
If the threat environment changes communication will be sent
