Chair’s Remarks

No remarks.

Approval of the minutes of the previous meeting

The minutes from the meeting on October 29, 2015, were accepted as distributed.

IAMNG update (Jason Testart via Bruce Campbell)

  • Jason Testart and his staff have prepared an RFP to replace the WatIAM tool.
    • Campbell will ask Testart to distribute the RFP to this group.
  • A team will be created to review the responses to the RFP.
    • There are some leaders in the market who we have done some background research on already.
  • Is there a rough timeline for when you want to complete this?
    • It will be done over the course of 2016; looking to acquire the solution around the end of this budget year/beginning of next budget year.

Net restrictions software for lab locking (Erick Engelke)

  • Engineering Computing has created a software package that includes three inter-related features:
    • Autologin/logoff – useful for setting up an exam
    • NetRestrict – a software replacement for LabLocker
    • ClassScreen – a software replacement for ClassNet video distribution
  • Is this something the average administrator for a computer lab could install?
    • It can be installed via SCCM and can enable it on the workstations; does not work for Mac.
  • The next step will be for Engineering to test it out this term before expanding to other faculties; but if others are interested in this software, please contact Erick Engelke.
    • This tool could be an option for people to use an alternative to ONA.

Other Business

  • Steven Bourque distributed an RFP for the Cloud Email Solution for Undergraduates.
    • Please review and respond with your thoughts.
    • We will have some decisions to make regarding what to do with Mailservices.

Roundtable Reporting

Applied Health Sciences (Trevor Bain)

  • Working with IST and Environment to begin testing the parallels management for Macs.
  • Had a situation where a professor wanted all 350 students in his class to do a test on their laptops at the same time; did not go well since it was a very high load on the Wi-Fi.

Instructional Technologies and Multimedia Services (Andrea Chappell)

  • Still working on figuring out the problem with userid changes that Dawn Keenan discussed last meeting.
  • Working on integrating Crowdmark with LEARN; having issues with that on D2L’s end.
  • Paul Miskovsky, Mirko Vucicevich and myself will be presenting to UCIST next week on eValuate and the Course Evaluation Project (CEP).

Environment (Marko Dumancic)

  • Working on cleaning up outdated/unsupported operating systems (only a few left).
  • We have one more XP machine that floats in and out; have been unable to locate at this point.

Engineering (Erick Engelke)

  • Engineering has invested in more projectors for multimedia labs.
  • There have been some concerns regarding change management for firewall changes.
  • We have had some complaints about noise levels in our labs during non-class time; wrote a program that can track noise levels and even request that people be quiet via the lab computers.

Client Services, IST (Bob Hicks)

  • Will Lewis has been updating the Web Store and has presented the updates to various groups on campus; will look to schedule him for a future CTSC meeting.

Arts (Dawn Keenan)

  • Had a small number of workstations in our labs that failed to connect to the students’ N drives; our workaround was to physically mount the drives.

Math (Robyn Landers)

  • We have been working on our NetApp to provide departmental drives but we have been having issues with file permissions; we believe it to be an issue with NetApp bugs.

Science (Paul Miskovsky)

  • Working on lab preps for mid-terms; first time we are not running exams for Accounting.
  • Firewall was turned on this week with just a few small issues; IST has been really good throughout this process.
  • The new Science building opened this week.

Next meeting

The next meeting will be held on November 26, 2015 at 1:30pm, in EC2 111.
