Email Security Gateway (Mark Gaulton, Mike Patterson)
Mark Gaulton and Mike Patterson attended the meeting to discuss Email security gateway. Topics included:
- Mail flow overview
- Implementation steps
- Policy overview

Comments & discussion
- SpamAssassin will still be in place ahead of the InterScan system for now.
- InterScan will quarantine email’s that have been flagged by SpamAssassin but will also do its own scan.
- End users will get summaries/lists of quarantined emails and be able to moderate (to some extent) themselves.
- There is the ability to whitelist senders (useful for situations where someone like the Provost or President are sending mass emails).
- Suspicious URL’s will get stripped before reaching destination.
- This system also provides us with a Deep Discovery analyzer which will send suspicious links/attachments to a separate cloud to explode them to see if they are dangerous.
