Biography

Leah Scheffler is a Master's candidate in the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies at the University of Waterloo. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Therapeutic Recreation with a minor in psychology, University of Waterloo. In her current thesis proposal that she is working on, Leah is planning to explore edible wild plant and fungi foraging in Ontario, Canada, using a phenomenological methodology and informed by dwelling theory.
Research interests
Human-nature relationships, aging and well-being, social perception, critical theories, decolonization, visual storytelling.
Leah's current research interests in her thesis are focused on both the experiences and the political and ethical tensions that surround nature and access to land. She is also interested in exploring other areas of research such as health and well-being.
