The Dixon research group is leading new NSERC strategic grant with partners Dr Paul Craig of Waterloo Biology, Dr Gregor Reid from Western University and Dr's Dan Heath and Tina Semeniuk of the Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research at the University of Windsor. With Industrial partners Yellow Island Aquaculture and Taplow Feeds they have obtained $556,000 to study "Genetic and probiotic improvement of immunity in triploid Chinook salmon", which will develop methods to growing environmentally friendly Pacific Salmon species in British Columbia. Dr Dixon is seen here fertilizing eggs to produce the over 12,000 salmon that will be studied in Year 1 of the grant.
