ECGG has started the new academic year with a bang! Thanks to Samantha Berdej and Kaitlyn Rathwell for organizing several events.
A cadre of great new researchers has joined the group: Dr. Prateep Nayak comes to ECGG as a prestigious Banting Post-Doctoral Fellow where he will work at the intersection of governance, thresholds and wellbeing, and with an emphasis on lagoon systems. Prateep graduated from the University of Manitoba (Natural Resources Institute) and brings a great deal of experience to the ECGG. He is a Trudeau Scholar and a past Giorgio Ruffolo Doctoral Fellow in Sustainability Science at Harvard University’s Center for International Development. Learn more on Prateep.
Also joining the group are Shandel Brown, Blair Carter and Jeremy Pittman. Jeremy will undertake his doctoral research in the area of climate change adaptation and governance. He has extensive experience working as an environmental consultant in western Canada, and just recently managed the field research team of a UNDP-funded project on vulnerability assessment and adaptation in St. Lucia. Blair, a graduate of Brock University in the Tourism and Environment program, is planning to complete her MES research on water resources and governance with a potential focus on the upper Mackenzie Basin. Shandel, also working on an MES, joins ECGG having completed an interdisciplinary undergraduate degree at Quest University. Shandel is planning a project on governance and climate change adaptation with a potential focus on Canada’s east coast. Welcome all!
Finally, congratulations to Steve Alexander and Mark Andrachuk. Each has recently received an IDRC Doctoral Research Award to support their work in Jamaica and Vietnam, respectively. These are very competitive awards and it is a testament to the caliber of ECGG scholars that two of these awards were captured in one competition. Congratulations!
