I am a PhD Candidate at the School of Environment, Resources, and Sustainability. My research interests broadly include understanding human-environment interactions from a governance perspective. My doctoral research focuses on the governance and institutional context of dried fish value chains with special attention to social wellbeing and gender dimensions. I work under the guidance of Professors Derek Armitage and Prateep Nayak. I undertake my research as part of Dried Fish Matters, a global research partnership focused on mapping the social economy of dried fish in South and Southeast Asia. My empirical work is focused on dried fish producing communities in Sri Lankan and India. In support of my doctoral work, I have won a SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship, IDRC Doctoral Research Award, HeForShe Gender Equity Grant, and a UWaterloo President’s Graduate Scholarship, among others.
I hold two Master’s Degrees, in Economics (University of Manitoba) and in Business Administration (University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka), and a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture (University of Peradeniya). I have previously worked as a Senior Policy Analyst with the Government of Manitoba, Canada as well as serving as a Program Consultant with a World Bank-funded development initiative in Sri Lanka.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading and craft-making with my daughter.
