Melissa is a master’s student in the School of Environment, Resources and Sustainability, as well as the Collaborative Water Program at the University of Waterloo. Melissa previously completed a Bachelors Degree of Environmental Studies at the University of Waterloo, focusing her thesis on the cost of eating sustainably in Waterloo region. While completing an internship in Shanghai, she gained experience working with riverside communities to improve quality of life facilitated by water management practices. Under the supervision of Derek Armitage, Melissa’s research interests lie in the development of coastal areas, specifically how sand mining plays a role in the ecological and social impacts of coastal communities.
