Start the term strong by learning what counts as a startup, how to know if your idea is worth pursuing and what you should do to get started.

If you wish to explore the commercialization of your project/research, then this program is for you. We know turning technology into a product is hard. That is why the teams at Velocity and the Waterloo Commercialization Office (WatCo) are combining our expertise in startups and technology transfer to accelerate your ambitions. If you are building something that can help people, businesses, or society flourish, we want to hear from you.

So you’ve got an idea? Before building anything in startups, you have to validate that it’s actually something somebody wants. While sounding relatively straightforward, figuring out whether people actually want your thing is the crucible on which most great startups are forged. Come join us for a new imagining of Cornerstone. Lead by Eric Blondeel, a two-time YC alumni, you’ll learn how to validate your idea without fooling yourself and others with bias. Learn about the mistakes of the teams that came before you and maybe earn some prizes along the way too.

Fall brings Consent Week which runs from Sept 16 - 20. Consent Week is an opportunity for campus community members to meaningfully engage in conversations and initiatives centered on consent, boundaries, healthy relationships, and the prevalence of sexual and gender-based violence.

The work in Prairie Invasions: A Homecoming interlaces abandoned farmhouses with the history of their inhabitants and creates a moment of pause and empathy for the lives that took place in these specific sites, but also for the land that the houses are built upon. Humans are changing our landscape at an increasingly rapid rate.

Borrowing from the title of Leo Tolstoy’s historical chronicle of the Napoleonic Wars and the 1812 invasion of Russia, Sadko Hadžihasanović’s War and Piece is a similarly fragmented view of his homeland in the wake of war.

Ever wonder what it’s like inside a Black Hole? Well, you can find out…sort of. The Black Hole Experience by Age of Union is a mobile immersive exhibition premiering in Waterloo Park for the city’s annual Lumen festival on September 21.

Join the Student Climate Council to help reduce climate anxiety on campus. Applications are due on September 16th. The Student Climate Council is composed of 2 students (undergraduate and graduate) from each faculty for 12 total student volunteer. Members of the Student Climate Council will support the Student Climate Action Program, gain organizational, leadership skills and knowledge while empowering like-minded student leaders across campus.
