Indigenous Speakers Series presents Greg Staats

The Indigenous Speakers Series is honoured to present Greg Staats, winner of the 2024 Governor General’s Award for Visual and Media Arts (GGArts) and a 2024-25 Longhouse Labs Fellow here at the University of Waterloo. At this event, Greg will discuss his evolving methodology based on phenomena, lens-based issues and a lifelong practice focused on Hodinosho:ni imagery and the responsibilities to land body and memory.

Winterfest Handmade Market

The 2024 Winterfest Handmade Market (formerly the UWSA Craft Show & Sale) takes place December 3 and 4 in the Student Life Centre. All items are handmade by UWSA staff, students, or alumni, and the market is a fundraiser for staff and student grants.

Winterfest: 36th Annual Celebration

Bring your family, friends, or work team for a fun afternoon at the Staff Association's 36th annual Winterfest! This year, Winterfest features: skating, face painting, a hot chocolate bar, and more! Kids' wrapped gifts and group/family photos can be added on for a small fee.

As part of the Water Institute's WaterTalks lecture series, Dr. Belinda Sturm, Director Kansas NSF EPSCoR, Professor and Ross McKinney Faculty Fellow, University of Kansas, Kansas, US, will present: Wastewater process intensification: Using biological process design to increase the hydraulic and treatment capacity of a municipal wastewater treatment plant.

This event is in person in DC 1302 with a networking lunch reception to follow in DC 1301 (The Fishbowl).

TH'OWXIYA: The Hungry Feast Dish

From the Kwantlen First Nation village of Squa’lets comes the tale of Th’owxiya, an old and powerful spirit that inhabits a feast dish of tempting, beautiful foods from around the world. When she catches a hungry mouse named Kw’at’el stealing a piece of cheese from her dish, she threatens to devour Kw’at’el’s whole family, unless he can bring Th’owxiya two child spirits. Ignorant but desperate, Kw’at’el sets out on an epic journey to fulfill the spirit’s demands.

Computer Museum Open House

Featuring: History of Computing for Tweens Learn about the history of counting, computing devices, and how an abacus works with a tasty treat! This presentation will be given by Scott Campbell from 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. in DC 1304.
