Protecting the Grand River: microplastics and environmental stewardship in the Haldimand Tract

Monday, September 18, 2023 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)

New research from the University of Waterloo has identified that a concerning amount of microplastics are making their way into the Grand River, which could have significant consequences for the health of the river. Members of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy at Six Nations are increasingly concerned about how plastic pollution impacts the health of the river and all those who depend on it. At this dynamic and hybrid event, you will learn about what happens to plastic in the environment, the latest research on microplastics, and efforts by members of Six Nations to protect the Tract and the Grand River. We will also discuss what actions are needed to hold settler governments accountable to end plastic pollution. Activities and a light dinner will precede the panel discussion for people able to attend in person.
