Please join us for the Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy’s 2023 Annual General Meeting on November 30th, 2023, from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
The Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy (WISE) is a research center at the University of Waterloo focused on developing research and supporting innovation in all facets of sustainable energy, including microgrids, policy, hydrogen, geothermal, remote communities, and much more.
The Annual General Meeting will showcase the work of 16 WISE Professors in the areas of Power Grids for Decarbonization, Technologies for a Net-Zero Future, and Sustainable and Just Energy Transitions, as well as two keynote speakers from industry – Harneet Panesar, the Chief Operating Officer for the Ontario Energy Board, and Jocelyn Millette, the Director General of CanmetENERGY in Varennes.
The decreasing cost of renewables and distributed energy resources, increased uptake in electric vehicles, and innovations such as microgrids are shifting the power grid landscape. Technologies such as hydrogen and ammonia, carbon capture and storage, geothermal energy, and small modular reactors are becoming an increasing part of the solution. Policy, economics, communities, and equity must be kept at the forefront of the energy transition to ensure sustainability and justice.
Join us on November 30th as we explore these topics and foster dialogue to support the sustainable energy transition!
