Waterloo Food Issues Group (WatFIG) meeting: October 17th

Thursday, October 17, 2013 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)

Please join us for our upcoming meeting on Thursday, October 17th, from 12:00-1:30, at the University of Waterloo in Environment building 1, room 221 (EV1-221).

Our speaker this week will be Isabel Urrutia, a Master of Environmental Studies candidate in the department of Environment and Resource Studies at the University of Waterloo.

Isabel will be talking to the group about her research on food waste: “Last month the Food and Agriculture Organization reported that if “food wastage” was a country, it would rank 3rd in carbon emissions, only after the USA and China! Numbers like these aren’t unusual when talking about food waste; studies estimate that globally between 1/3 and 1/2 of food intended for human consumption is wasted, and Canada is not the exception. I will give an overview of how food waste occurs globally, and talk about what we might expect to find when we study food wastage in Canada.”
