Beth Timmers

PhD student

Beth is a PhD student in the Department of Environment and Resource Studies at the University of Waterloo. Her research explores the links between gender relations and economic inequalities in small-scale agriculture in the Global South. She has field expertise in Uganda with farming cooperatives and small-scale fisheries.

Prior to joining the Faculty of Environment in Waterloo, Beth worked at the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research (CGIAR)’s WorldFish Center in Malaysia. Beth received her Master’s degree in Global Development Studies from Queen’s University in 2010 and holds an undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Winnipeg. Her research interests and passion for good food result from a childhood spent on a small-scale farm in rural Manitoba.
