Jennifer is a PhD student in the Global Governance program at the University of Waterloo’s Balsillie School of International Affairs and a member of the Global Food Politics research group.
She is interested in the governance of global food and agriculture, and on questions of power in relation to science and technology. Her current research focus is on public-private partnerships in agricultural R&D, specifically on emerging partnerships between the international public research institutions of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) and multinational corporations.
Prior to joining the Balsillie School, Jennifer received her MA in Political Science from the University of Waterloo, researching regionalism in Latin American and Canadian foreign policy in the Americas. She completed her BA (Hons.) from Mount Allison University in New Brunswick with a major in International Relations and a minor in French. She studied abroad for a year at the University Marc Bloch in Strasbourg, France, focusing on French language studies, history, and European regionalism. Before beginning the PhD program, she worked in Mexico at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) in the Capacity Building and Knowledge Sharing unit.
