AGEWELL

AGE-WELL is one of Canada's Networks of Centres of Excellence. AGE-WELL encompasses many sectors, including industry, non-profit organizations, government, care providers, end-users, and academic partners from across Canada. This multi-sector organization is using high-quality research to drive innovation and create technologies and services that benefit older adults. The aim of AGE-WELL is to help older Canadians maintain their independence, health and quality of life through accessible technologies that increase their safety and security, support their independent living, and enhance their social participation. 

Research questions

AGE-WELL is targeting their research to answer the three following research questions:

  • What are the needs of older adults and caregivers and how could technology be used to meet those needs?
  • What technology-based systems and services should be used to enhance the health and well-being of older adults and support independent living?
  • How can innovation be fostered in the short and long-term to benefit older people, health care providers and Canadian Industry?

Research themes

All AGE-WELL research is supported by four crosscutting themes:

3.    Transdisciplinary Working 

4.    Training and Mentorship 

Workpackages

AGE-WELL is comprised of a series of 8 Workpackages (WPs), each with their own specific research goals.  Some Workpackages are focused on creating aging technologies, while others focus on identifying the technology needs of older adults and their caregivers, or on fostering innovation within the Canadian context. 

Paul Stolee, along with Don Juzwishin of Alberta Health Services, is a co-lead for Workpackage 7: Health Systems, Practice, Policy and Regulatory Issues (POLICY-TECH). For more information about POLICY-TECH, see aging and technology.
