The HRH data town hall brought interested Waterloo researchers and campus partners together to discuss next steps toward an institutional health data strategy. Building on survey findings, the session highlighted strong demand for shared infrastructure, improved dataset discoverability, and clearer guidance around privacy, governance, and PHIPA/PIPEDA-compliant data practices. Presentations from Stan Woo, Helen Chen, and Adam Molnar showed how proof-of-principle projects, scalable infrastructure, and governance-by-design can work together to support more collaborative, secure, and impactful health research at Waterloo.

The Health Research Hub co-hosted its first campus event, the inaugural Health Imaging Consortium, From Methods to Innovations to Building Connections, on April 21, 2026. The event brought together researchers, staff, and students from across the University of Waterloo to showcase health-related imaging work spanning aging, brain research, musculoskeletal health and imaging methods. As an early milestone for the Hub, the event highlighted the value of cross-campus collaboration and the Hub’s role in connecting people, expertise, and resources to support health research.

Researchers working with human health or health-related data are invited to complete a brief survey on health data storage, management, and access. Survey findings will inform HRH’s planning for a university-wide health data strategy and future support initiatives.
