Research computing infrastructure

Faculty-specific research infrastructure services

Centrally available research infrastructure services

Microsoft Azure services

Researchers have full access to Microsoft Azure services. Azure cloud platform is more than 200 products and cloud services designed to help you build, run, and manage applications across multiple clouds or on-premises with the tools and frameworks of your choice. An account code for monthly billing must be provided. Submit a request to arrange access/billing.

Wi-Fi and networking services

If you believe you need more wireless or wired options than you currently have, contact your local IT administrator who can assist.

Accessing external research infrastructure resources

In addition to existing support for large-scale research projects, Canada’s national advanced research computing (ARC) platform is capable of sustaining robust research for mid- and smaller-scale data-intensive projects, in any discipline. Each year, the Federation allocates an average of 80% of its compute and storage resources through the Resource Allocation Competition (RAC) and leaves roughly 20% for non-competitive requests. Users can access these non-competitive resources via our Rapid Access Service.

Resource Allocation Competition (RAC)

The Resource Allocation Competition (RAC) enables faculty members and their research groups to access compute, storage and cloud resources beyond what can be obtained via the Rapid Access Service (RAS).

Rapid Access Service (RAS)

The Rapid Access Service (RAS) allows Principal Investigators (PIs) to request a modest amount of storage and cloud resources without having to apply to the Resource Allocation Competitions (RAC). Many research groups can meet their needs by using the Rapid Access Service only.
