Salva Asgharizadeh

Graduate Student

Salva completed her Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Honours Psychology at McGill University and is currently in her second year of the MA program. She is interested in how bilingual children align their language with others, and how this affects their interactions. Outside the lab, Salva enjoys going to the gym and playing her guitar, as well as crying over cute photos of kittens. 

Ashley Avarino

Graduate Student

Ashley is a PhD student completing her research on the influence of accent on children’s learning preferences. Ashley has been with the LIDL lab for 7 years, and over this time has explored different topics on how children learn language! Outside of the lab, Ashley enjoys reading, crocheting, and spending time with friends and family.

Brian Kim

Graduate Student

Brian is a 2nd year Master of Arts (MA) Psychology candidate and completed his Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Honours Psychology at the University of Waterloo with a Research-Intensive Specialization. Brian is broadly interested in the intersection between emotional memory and language, in both adult monolinguals and bilinguals. In his free time, he loves whacking a little golf ball around the golf course. 

Ana Ljujic

Graduate Student

Ana completed her Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Honours Psychology and her Masters of Applied Science (MASc) in Developmental and Communication Science at the University of Waterloo. She is now in her first year of the PhD program in Developmental Psychology. She is broadly interested in the various factors that may play a role in linguistic alignment. Outside the lab, Ana loves to cook and travel!

Mariam Mazen

Graduate Student

Mariam completed her Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Honours Psychology at the University of Waterloo and is currently in her first year of the MASc program. She is interested in how family and cultural dynamics influence children's language development. Outside the lab, Mariam enjoys reading and hanging with her dog! 

Greg Shaikevich

Graduate Student

Greg completed his BA in Honours Psychology at UW and is currently in the second year of his MA program, co-supervised by Jonathan Fugelsang and Katherine White. He is currently researching how our truth judgements for the statements we hear are influenced by the accent they are spoken in. Outside of school, he enjoys reading and cooking new recipes.

Emily Shiu

Graduate Student

Emily completed her Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology with a Japanese Certificate I and her Master of Applied Science (MASc) both at the University of Waterloo. Currently, she is doing her PhD. Her current research is about the cognitive processes involved in using conversational user interfaces (such as voice assistants), specifically in how experiences may differ for bilingual individuals. Outside the lab, Emily enjoys playing video games and trying new foods.

Jasmine Tossan

Graduate Student

Jasmine is completing the 1st year of her MA at Waterloo. Her current research looks at how people process sentences using structural linguistic cues and pragmatic cues. In her free time, she enjoys exploring new places, reading, and making smoothies. 

Madeline Wiseman

Graduate Student

Madeline completed her BSc (Hons.) in psychology at the University of New Brunswick, and her MASc at the University of Waterloo. She is currently in her 2nd year of the psychology PhD program. She is interested in how children’s learning may be affected by their social perceptions. In her free time, Madeline enjoys spending time with her partner and their cat Cannoli, as well as engaging in some creative hobbies (e.g., singing, drawing, baking).
