Policy on Confidentiality of Library Records

The University of Waterloo Library is committed to protecting the privacy of individuals. Personal information that you provide in order to use any University of Waterloo Library Services will be made available to designated library staff in order to perform the duties of their position or fulfil requested library services; or others as necessary in the proper discharge of the university’s functions or library services; or where required or permitted by law.

The library may collect personal information including the following types:

  • >Biographical information (eg. name, email, address, student/employee number, program, barcode)
  • Research requests, including titles and topics
  • Items loaned
  • User feedback

This policy is in conformance with the Ontario Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), University of Waterloo’s policies and guidelines, Policy 46, and WatClass.
