Study spaces on campus

Looking for a place to study on campus? Use this guide to help you find individual and group study spaces.

Individual study spaces

  • Dana Porter Library (LIB)

    • Due to construction taking place until March 2018, only a portion of the third floor will be accessible to students. The fifth floor will be permanently inaccessible to students

    • Floors six, seven, eight and nine have individual study carrels. Consult the Library floor plans for exact locations

  • Davis Centre Library (DC)

    • Due to construction from September to November 2017, a portion of the main floor will not be accessible to students

    • Some individual study carrels on the main and lower floors will remain accessible during construction

  • Musagetes Architecture Library (ARC)

    • Musagetes Library offers individual study carrels

  • Conrad Grebel University College (CGR)

    • The Milton Good Library has individual study carrels for quiet study

  • Renison University College (REN)

    • The Lusi Wong Library has individual study carrels for quiet study

  • Pharmacy Library (Pharmacy Building) (PHR)

    • Individual study carrels are available 24/7 to all students, staff, and faculty in the School of Pharmacy

Group study rooms

Davis Centre and Dana Porter libraries

Group study areas are available in each of the University libraries, the libraries at the University colleges, and other campus locations.

  • Dana Porter Library (LIB)

    • Due to construction until March 2018, a portion of the third floor will not be accessible to students
    • The fifth floor will be permanently inaccessible to students
    • Group study rooms are available throughout the Library, which can be booked online
  • Davis Centre Library (William G. Davis Computer Research Centre) (DC)

    • Due to construction taking place September to November 2017, only a portion of the main floor will be accessible to students
    • Study rooms M and N can be booked online
  • Conrad Grebel University College (CGR)

    • The Milton Good Library has two group study rooms available by reservation. Check the study room bookings page

  • Renison University College (REN)

    • The Lusi Wong Library has two rooms available to book online
  • Pharmacy Library (Pharmacy Building) (PHR)

    • The Pharmacy Library has three study rooms available 24/7 to all students, staff, and faculty in the School of Pharmacy. All room bookings go through the School of Pharmacy's main lobby reception desk
  • Student Life Centre (SLC)

    • One study room is closed to facilitate the construction of the new building and the link to MC. The remaining six are unaffected. A small portion of the third floor quiet study room has been closed affecting less than 20% of the room.

    • To provide students with study space during exams tables and chairs will be placed in the Great Hall

    • Students who are looking for alternative study spaces should use the Study Space and Open Classrooms widgets on Portal
  • William M. Tatham Centre (TC)

    • On days when no interviews are scheduled, interview rooms are available to book on a first-come, first-serve basis from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. To book a room, sign in at the Information Desk and exchange your WatCard for a room key​

    • Students can take advantage of classroom space when it is accessible and not in use

Lounges and casual spaces

There are additional places across campus that can accommodate individual and group study.

  • POETS lounge (Carl A. Pollock Hall) (CPH)

    • Located in the first-floor atrium of Carl Pollock Hall, POETS is a student pub and lounge equipped with comfortable seating, tables, and an outdoor patio
  • Cafeteria, Davis Centre (DC)

    • There is a large cafeteria and patio located on the lower level of the building that can accommodate small groups of up to four people
  • Math Coffee and Donut Shop, third floor (MC)

  • Hagey Hall (Hub)

    • Project Cube (HH 2034) is a glass-walled room at the front of the Hub's second floor and is available for booking by arts students with a valid WatCard. Contact Debbie Stanley-Pallas, Dean of Arts Office, extension 32400
    • Second floor mezzanine area is an open space that can be used for student events and displays, and offers some workspace counters and seating
    • Study Deck (HH 3042, Hub) is a glass-walled room with comfortable chairs for quiet study
  • Science Teaching Complex (STC)

    • Lounge and single/double study spaces
  • Quantum Nano Centre

    • Single/double study spaces
  • Engineering (E5)

    • Group study tables on the third floor, lounge on the sixth floor, also study spaces with access to computers on the second floor
  • Williams Fresh Cafe, Environment 3 (EV3)
