Homecoming - Class is Back in Session: Come Home to Math!

Spend the day reconnecting with fellow alumni and rediscovering the Faculty of Mathematics through engaging discussions, nostalgic experiences and campus exploration. 

Faculty of Mathematics Homecoming 2026, themed “Class is Back in Session: Come Home to Math,”takes place on Saturday, September 19, 2026, and invites alumni, students, faculty and friends back to the University of Waterloo for a day of connection and discovery.

Check in at Math Homecoming Headquarters, located just outside the Math C&D on the third floor of MC, and spend the day reliving what it was like to be a Waterloo math student. Explore interactive experiences in the Computer Museum and CS452 Train Lab, return to the classroom for a nostalgic Math 135 session, take a guided tour of campus and reconnect over a celebratory Alumni Lunch. Together, these experiences offer a unique blend of nostalgia, learning and community, celebrating both the Faculty of Mathematics' rich history and its spirit of innovation.

2026 Math Convocation 
Wednesday, June 17, 2026

The Faculty of Mathematics celebrated the Class of 2026 during Spring Convocation. Across three ceremonies at the University of Waterloo’s Physical Activities Complex (PAC), 1,238 undergraduate students, 177 master’s students and 54 PhD candidates received their degrees and joined the global Waterloo alumni community. 

Graduates represented programs in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Combinatorics and Optimization, Pure Mathematics and Data Science. Family, friends, faculty and staff gathered to recognize their dedication, resilience and accomplishments and to celebrate the start of their next chapter. 


Class of 1976: Celebrating 50 years 
Saturday, June 6, 2026

The Class of 1976 celebrated a remarkable milestone with its 50th Reunion at the University of Waterloo. 

Classmates reconnected during a half-day celebration filled with shared memories, meaningful conversations and opportunities to revisit the Faculty of Mathematics. 

Event highlights included: 

  • A guided Math walking tour 

  • A visit to the Computer Museum 

  • Lunch with the Dean of Mathematics 

The reunion provided a special opportunity to reflect on the lasting impact of their time at Waterloo and the friendships and experiences that continue to connect them decades later.

A particularly memorable moment was welcoming Hans Rempel, the first editor of mathNEWS, who attended the reunion and met with the current mathNEWS editors, bridging generations of student storytellers and celebrating one of the faculty's enduring traditions. 


Entrepreneurship and Impact Series: Ask Me Anything with Jeff McKay 
Wednesday, May 20, 2026

The Math Innovation Office hosted an exclusive “Ask Me Anything” event featuring Jeff on May 20, 2026, in MC 5501 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. followed by a Networking Session. 

Jeff McKay (BMath ’08), Co-Founder and CTO of PolicyMe, Canada’s leading insurtech company, shared insights from his work reinventing how families access financial protection. 

At PolicyMe, Jeff leads Engineering, AI strategy and Security, with a focus on building modern products in a highly regulated industry. He brings practical founder experience in proving out ideas, shipping rapidly with small budgets and developing high-performing engineering teams. 
 
Jeff enjoys working directly with students and new founders, translating hard-won startup lessons into concrete, repeatable playbooks.
