Administrative history: Zion Mennonite Fellowship was a church plant initiated by the Northern District Ministerial of the Mennonite Conference of Ontario & Quebec and Elmira area Mennonite churches. Exploratory meetings began in 1985, and a local steering committee was put in place in 1986. Sunday morning services began in January 1987 at the Legion Hall in Elmira.The first building was occupied in 1996. Initial congregational leadership came from lay leaders.
The original membership was comprised primarily of people from Elmira Mennonite Church and Bethel Mennonite Church at Elora. In 1995 there were 66 members; in 2000, 53. The congregation affiliated with Mennonite Church Eastern Canada in 1988.
Custodial history: The records were donated to the Archives by Dale Bauman, chair of the Elmira Area Church Planting Steering Committee and Richard Yordy, a member of the committee.
Scope and content: Contains minutes, strategy documents and outreach materials of the steering committee.
