Maria Strack is a leading international expert in greenhouse gas fluxes in wetland ecosystems, with a particular interest in methane dynamics in soils and their hydrochemical and microbiological conditions. Her research aims to improve estimations of wetland methane emissions, particularly under different disturbance and restoration regimes at instrumented field sites across Canada, for methane mitigation. She has expertise in direct soil methane emission measurements and methane modelling. Maria is a member of the College of New Scholars of the Royal Society of Canada.
