Volunteer in our research

We are always looking for volunteers to take part in research studies that investigate different aspects of the front eye surface – e.g., tear film, eyelids, cornea – using different methods of imaging – e.g., thermal imaging, reflection imaging, near-infrared imaging.

For each study, your participation will consist of:

  • Initial interview to determine eligibility – usually done via screening survey.
  • If selected, then attendance at our lab for data collection at which we explain the study in more detail and ask you to sign a consent form, followed by the specific data collection methods for the particular study you would be enrolled in.
  • Some studies are single session, and some require you to attend for more than one session.
  • At the end of the study, we make sure that everything has been completed, and usually there is a payment for your participation, depending on how many sessions you attended for and how long each session lasted.

Who can participate?

We are looking for healthy participants, as well as participants with health conditions that can affect the eye (depending on the study design).

Ethical Approval

All of our studies are reviewed and receive approval through the University of Waterloo Human Research Ethics Board.
