The University of Waterloo is teaming up with Windmill Microlending, a national charity dedicated to supporting skilled immigrants and refugees, to help newcomers successfully integrate into Canada’s workforce.  

This partnership is designed to close the gap between skilled newcomers and the Canadian job market. Through financial support and tailored educational opportunities, it provides the resources needed to unlock the potential of this diverse population.  

Home to the largest  Faculty of Environment in Canada, Waterloo has catalyzed environmental innovation, solutions and talent for 50 years.  

For many years, our researchers have been responding to the climate crisis with purpose-driven research and sustainable technologies to help design policies that will protect our environment and support a sustainable future.

The University of Waterloo is proud to celebrate Black History Month. Black History Month in Canada celebrates the contributions and achievements of Black Canadians and communities. It was officially recognized in 1995 when the House of Commons unanimously adopted a motion introduced by the Honourable Jean Augustine, the first Black Canadian woman elected to Parliament.

Despite overwhelming scientific consensus on their safety and benefits, genetically modified foods remain one of the most unfairly villainized innovations in modern agriculture.

When Asha R. received her acceptance letter from the University of Waterloo, it felt like a giant step toward a promising future. But just a few months into her first year, reality hit hard: Asha was struggling financially. Without assistance from her family, and despite working a part-time job on top of a full courseload, Asha could barely make rent.

Dr. Talena Atfield’s work to restore and regenerate Hodinohso:ni cultural knowledges starts with the title of her Canada Research Chair: Tentewatenikonhra’khánion, which translates to “We Will Put Our Minds Together.”

Dr. Robert Jan van Pelt, a professor in the School of Architecture, is renowned for his research into the architecture and design of the Nazi concentration camps and gas chambers.  

His research became public when he took the stand as the key expert witness in a notorious British libel trial that pitted British Holocaust denier David Irving against American historian Deborah Lipstadt. His testimony, portrayed in the 2016 film Denial, was a key factor in the verdict clearing Lipstadt of the claim of libel.
