As a startup in the operational artificial intelligence (AI) sector, EMAGIN Clean Technologies Inc., is finding a receptive audience for a new system that uses AI for environmental protection as a means to help municipal utilities proactively improve their water and wastewater operations.

Students, faculty and community members are invited to join the campaign at the University of Waterloo around sexual consent. The campaign, launched by the Equity Office, is called #AskatUW and includes an expert keynote talk, an art installation and poster campaign.

Lori Campbell — Waterloo Aboriginal Education Centre

Lori Campbell is the director of the Waterloo Aboriginal Education Centre(WAEC). The centre is located at St. Paul’s University College, at the University of Waterloo. A goal of WAEC is to educate the public about the treatment of Indigenous people in Canada throughout history, a necessary component of reconciliation.

Art Stokman jokes that instead of buying an expensive sports car when he turned 50, he marked the milestone birthday by taking up his childhood hobby.

The 1974 electrical engineering graduate decided to add to his small play-worn collection of red and green Meccano, a popular kids’ building toy of the early to mid-20^th century. Hundreds of hours and over 10,600 pieces later, he completed a model of the iconic Eiffel Tower. Stokman’s labour of love currently stands tall in the main foyer of Waterloo Engineering’s E5.

In 1967, Canada celebrated its Centennial year, the University of Waterloo commemorated its 10^th anniversary and Waterloo’s School of Architecture launched as part of the Faculty of Engineering.

To mark its 50^th anniversary, Architecture hosted a special evening in June for students, faculty and alumni.

The report, GenY at Home, was released today and builds on recent census data findings that show 47.4 per cent of millennials, also known as GenY, in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) live with their parents.

In addition to highlighting major reasons young people live at home, it also found that multiculturalism, relief from isolation and mutual support are eroding the stereotype that living with your parents is a bad thing.

That’s because it takes additional investments to keep newly built venues in use after the event.

“In a bid to get a mega-event event, organizers often plan to help offset the cost of new facilities by opening the venue up for public use afterwards,” said Luke Potwarka, the study’s lead author and a professor in the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences at Waterloo. “But the idea that ‘if you build it they will come’ does not always hold true.”

Waterloo President and Vice-Chancellor Feridun Hamdullahpur joined delegates from around the world at the HeForShe IMPACT Event to recognize advancements in gender equality.

The event was hosted by UN Women in New York City, and was attended by heads of state, global CEOs and university presidents who committed their organizations to tangible gender equality goals in 2015 as part of the HeForShe IMPACT10x10x10 initiative.
