Fostering student community on campus


Two years after the successful launch of the first Indigenous collection at the W Store, in collaboration with local artist Alanah Astehtsi Otsistohkwa (Morningstar) Jewell, the Office of Indigenous Relations (OIR) and Print and Retail Solutions have partnered again to feature an exciting new line with Anishinaabe Onyota’a:ka artist, Tehatsistahawi (Tsista) Kennedy.

Six recipients of the Loran Scholars Foundation have travelled across Canada to pursue their academic careers at the University of Waterloo.
The Loran Scholars Foundation looks beyond marks when selecting their candidates — Loran Scholars are students who demonstrate integrity, courage, curiosity and a commitment to service.
Loran Scholars will receive awards worth up to $100,000 over four years to support their studies, as they continue to embrace the challenge of making the world a better place for all.
Now that ground has been broken on the Waterloo Eye Institute and construction is about to start in earnest, the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science is moving its Waterloo campus clinic and all its specialty services to a convenient nearby location.
Kellie Chouinard’s journey to her PhD in English at Waterloo has been anything but linear. With a background in social media, event planning and public relations, Chouinard’s professional experiences fueled her curiosity about how social media is used to communicate in specific ways.
When Stephen Szimanski (BA ’06) and Jodi Szimanski (BA ’97, MBET ’20) came to the University of Waterloo in the 1990s, they didn't know black and gold would become part of their identities.
They lovingly named their first dog Warrior – a black-and-gold coloured Rottweiler-German Shepherd mix. In their basement, you’ll find high-top tables and chairs from the former Bombshelter pub, which Stephen managed for a few years in the ’90s. Stephen even has a Waterloo Warriors tattoo on his right arm as an ode to his time as a student-athlete.

When speaking to Eric Peters (BSc ’22) days before his first Olympic event, he appears calm and focused. After over a decade of training, practicing and competing in archery, he’s feeling ready to make his Olympic debut at the Summer Games.
The Summer 2024 Velocity Pitch Competition saw a big turnout for the eight finalist teams who showcased their innovative solutions in front of a live audience and a panel of judges.
On July 25, the University of Waterloo community rallied around the final teams, vying for more than $20,000 in grants. The startups — Automax AI, Brewtrack, ComedySet, Doro, InnSight, MyPharmacist, PyroGuard, and Talk & Order — each delivered a three-minute pitch about their startup and path to market.
