WATERLOO, Ont. (Tuesday, July 23, 2013) – WestonExpressions, a startup currently operating with the University of Waterloo’s VeloCity startup program, today launched the Linkett Interactive Digital Signage System. Linkett equips existing televisions and digital signs with motion and mobile capabilities, enabling highly targeted, on-the-spot promotions to passersby.

Sujay Arora is a Waterloo engineering student now but he grew up in New Delhi, a city where recent public protests have raised awareness about violence against women.

WATERLOO, Ont. (Thursday, July 18, 2013) – VeloCity, a student startup program of the University of Waterloo, will be announcing the recipients of $100,000 grant funding at the Spring 2013 VeloCity Venture Fund Finals and Demo Day on July 25. Gamblers like noisy slot machines -- it reinforces the rewarding feeling after a win

Winning sounds on slot machines make gambling more exciting, according to a new study by Mike Dixon and colleagues from the University of Waterloo in Canada. Moreover, their work shows that sounds also cause players to overestimate the number of times they won while playing on slot machines. The study is published online in Springer's Journal of Gambling Studies.

Devon Rizzo has the shot of a lifetime and it might just be coming at the right time for the fourth-year University of Waterloo varsity golfer. 

Rizzo, an engineering student, has been granted an exemption to play in the one-day qualifying event for the 2013 Manulife Financial LPGA Classic. The Warrior golfer is coming off an impressive second place finish at the Eastern Provinces Championship in Kingston, an event well-known for its deep field of recognized amateur women golfers.

A party of Inuit hunters sets out from a settlement. One of them stops, pulls out a smart phone and snaps a picture of a crack in the shore ice that affects his route.

The hunter instantly uploads the photo to a public database, which shares the image with anybody who has an interest in ice conditions in the area.

"It’s like a traffic alert on your Magellan,’’ LeDrew says, referring to a popular digital navigator.
