Honorary degree caps off Waterloo experience

Getting lost at Waterloo Engineering worked out pretty well for Chuck Magro (BASc ’93, chemical engineering).

Long before he climbed the corporate ladder to lead Nutrien Ltd. - the largest fertilizer provider in the world with more than 27,000 employees and over $20 billion in annual sales - Magro was an intimidated teenager from rural Ontario just hoping to fit in at his new school.

Driving Ontario’s growth in virtual learning

The University of Waterloo has been awarded almost $1.5 million from the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities (MCU) as part of their $50 million investment in virtual learning.  Ontario’s Virtual Learning Strategy will expand the possibilities of traditional and life-long learning through the accelerated use of both online and hybrid learning.

Prioritizing student growth and development for a decade

During his time as president and vice-chancellor, Feridun Hamdullahpur has invested deeply in the success, support and development of Waterloo students. Known for approaching students on campus to chat or say hello, Hamdullahpur often took the time to make connections. Over the past decade, he has overseen the growth and development of our campuses, a renowned co-op program and many diverse initiatives, all designed to foster student learning and growth.

Remembering Tom Coleman

Tom Coleman, dean of Mathematics from 2005 to 2010, and professor of Combinatorics & Optimization from 2005 to the present, passed away on April 20, 2021, after a battle with cancer. He was at home and surrounded by his family, including his loving wife Yuying Li, professor in the Cheriton School of Computer Science.

2021 C100 Fellows Cohort

C100’s Fellowship program highlights Canada’s most promising early-stage entrepreneurs. The 2021 cohort features four University of Waterloo connections. From Velocity alumni to chief technology officers, many of these individuals are the face of Canada's future entrepreneurial sector. The University of Waterloo fosters an entrepreneurial atmosphere, providing many incubation and acceleration programs, connection, support systems and much more.
