Who we are

Welcome to the University of Waterloo Joint Student Chapter of the Ontario Water Works Association and the Water Environment Association Of Ontario (OWWA/WEAO). Established in 2022 and supported by the OWWA Young Professionals Committee (YPC), we are a student led group that provides opportunities for networking with peers and water professional by organizing events, workshops, panel discussions on topics related to water.

OWWA is a part of the American Water Works Association (AWWA), a voluntary membership organization of drinking water professionals dedicated to protecting public health through the delivery of safe, sufficient, and sustainable drinking water. Founded in 1881, this organization has over 50,000 members in 43 sections in the USA, Canada, Mexico, and India.

Our mission is to promote research excellence and innovation by facilitating opportunities for networking, professional development, and leadership training. We strive to provide a platform for our members to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge-sharing to address the complex challenges faced by the water systems globally. As a student chapter, we are committed to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion within our community and beyond. We seek to foster a culture of respect and open dialogue that values different perspectives and encourages critical thinking.

Objectives of our Student Chapter

  • Represent students and promote their common interests.
  • Help students create connections, build relationships, and expand their skills.
  • Enhance professional development through communication and knowledge sharing with water industry professionals and provide career advancement opportunities.
  • Raise awareness of the importance of safe drinking water and advocate for policies and practices that promote its protection.
