Growing Waterloo's profile in Asia

#UWaterloo Delegation Team

For the last week and a bit, I've had the honour of leading our annual president's delegation to East Asia. This year our travels took us to Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong and Shenzhen, China, to maintain and build partnerships that will serve Waterloo well for years to come.

Signature Innovation in Korea

This week I travelled to Korea to catch up with our alumni, participate in a university presidents' forum, and leave Waterloo's signature on the Samsung Innovation Museum.

Growing UWaterloo's international partnerships

Just before the end of March, I travelled to Singapore and China to meet some of UWaterloo's key partners in the region.

From spring to summer, a season of celebration: June in review

This month has been a busy and exciting one for both the University and for me. There has been so much to celebrate and there is much more to come.

A new season of global impacts for Waterloo: May in review

As the Spring term heats up and our University turns its focus to June, we have much to celebrate. In particular, I want to dedicate my comments today on Waterloo’s constantly growing and evolving role as a highly internationalized university, and one with a strong social mission.

A welcoming campus community: September in review

The 2014-2015 academic year is off to a busy and successful start.

Throughout the month of September we have been welcoming people to campus from beginning to end!

In addition to receiving our exceptional incoming students and excellent faculty, we are also welcoming back old friends over the upcoming Reunion weekend. It’s a great chance for our Alumni to revisit their alma mater and see the continued successes and expansions of the University.

From global to local, Waterloo’s profile grows: May in review

Both at home and abroad, May has been an exciting month for Waterloo.

As you know, building our international profile and prominence is an important part of our Strategic Plan. In pursuit of that goal, I led a delegation of Waterloo administrators and researchers to visit some of our key partners in China this month and the results have been excellent.

Waterloo leads in innovation and education: April in review

First things first: congratulations to our students who have just finished the Winter 2014 academic term, and to all faculty and staff for making it possible.

I wish each and every one of you the best as you head into a co-op job, a spring-time academic term, or other opportunities. And of course, a special congratulations to all students who have just completed their degrees from the University of Waterloo. I’ll see you in June!

A great start to 2014: January in review

I hope that, like me, you’re finding 2014 is off to an outstanding start.

It was a pleasure to partner with FEDS in welcoming students to campus during Winter Welcome Week. Our President’s Lunch event was well-attended and enjoyed by all. Thanks to the many of you who participated, and for my administration colleagues who helped to serve.
