RISE M.A. student Nurudeen Issifu receives SMART Healthy Cities Training Platform scholarship
Incoming RISE student Nurudeen Issifu is the recipient of graduate funding to support his Master’s studies from the SMART Healthy Cities Training Platform. The SMART Training Platform aims to equip the next generation of researchers to implement successful, scalable and enduring solutions to healthy city challenges facing growing urban centres of all sizes in Canada and globally.
Edible landscaping and community gardens offer one avenue for healthy food provision and environmental sustainability in the face of urbanization and its associated climate change impacts. Nurudeen’s research will look at their inclusion in new residential developments to support sustainable development in cities, and tying it with RISE’s aim to build more sustainable neighbourhoods.
Nurudeen joins RISE and the University of Waterloo from Ghana, where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Development Planning from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. Nurudeen will be studying under the supervision of Dawn Parker in the School of Planning.
Congratulations Nurudeen on this achievement!
